Sedation Dentistry | Silverman Family Dentistry

Sedation dentistry has been providing an avenue away from fear of going to the dentist ever since its induction into modern dentistry.

Thousands of dentists, including Silverman Dental, have chosen to get the special training need to perform sedation dentistry. We are specially trained to not only provide it, but to relax our patients when they are here, and to give them a safe and comfortable experience.

It is a well-known fact that people can suffer from dental fear and anxiety. In fact, it’s estimated that 40,000 to 50,000 people have “dental phobia.” That’s why dentists have several ways of calming patients under sedation dentistry, including medication. Medication will leave patients fully aware and alert, and able to respond to inquiries. Conscious sedatives will make the patient drowsy and relaxed. This process is called conscious sedation, and can be administered by Silverman Dental.

Unconscious sedation via general anesthesia is another option. It is where the patient is fully sedated during the procedure. It is recommended for patients who have a strong gag reflex, for example, or for those who cannot be awake during a dental procedure. Patients will have no memory of the procedure.

Conscious sedatives also partially block memory formation, so even if the patient was not actually asleep, it may seem that way since they’re likely to have no memory of the procedure.

Please speak with a fully licensed and trained dentist for more information on sedation dentistry. We currently offer oral conscious sedation but not IV/unconscious sedation. Call us in Cincinnati for more information – (513) 984-3700.
