Four Tips for an Improved Smile

Your smile is a focal part of your face, and it’s hard to feel good about the way you look if your teeth are crooked, broken, or discolored. A brighter, whiter smile leads to more self-confidence in the way you look and present yourself. While regular care and visits to the dentist are of the utmost importance, there are also several methods of cosmetic dentistry that can help improve your smile.

We’ve put together a list of the top four ways to improve your smile, and feel great about the way you look.

Floss Properly Every Day

Many consumers brush regularly, but forget the all-important step of flossing. Make sure to floss at least once a day to remove plaque and tartar that gets caught under the surface. When flossing, remember to gently move the floss up and down between your teeth to avoid soreness or injury to the gums.

Regular Dental Visits

Regular dental visits should be scheduled about every six months. During your exam, your hygienist will clean and examine your teeth, and your dentist can give pinpoint any problem areas, and give you tips on how to fix them. If you have a hard time remembering your appointments, allow us to schedule them for you and send you a reminder card.

Watch What You Drink

Limit the amount of tea, coffee, and red wine that you drink, as these substances can ultimately lead to stained teeth. Although the exterior stain can often be polished off, the interior staining is more difficult to get rid of. When you enjoy these drinks, make sure to flush your mouth out with water to limit staining.

Drinking lots of water also helps to wash out harmful substances that are left behind after eating or drinking. If you don’t have time to brush your teeth after lunch, try drinking more water throughout the day.

Take Care of Your Body

Certain health conditions like obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure can also be hard on your teeth. Smoking is also detrimental to your smile, and we encourage you to see your doctor to get control of any health issues you may be dealing with that affect your smile.
